JOSEPH HAYWARD STEWART October 18, 1927 - August 22, 2008 The family regrets to announce the passing of our dear Husband, Father and Grandfather, Joseph Hayward Stewart on Friday August 22, 2008 at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his Parents Hugh and Florence Stewart; brothers, Hugh, William (Bernice) and sister Esther (Eric) Chiddenton. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 59 years Margaret (nee Atkins); sons, Glen and Ward (Brenda) and daughter Debbie. He also leaves his three Grandchildren, Meaghan, Scott and Rae-anne, brother Jack (Liz), sister-in-law Lil, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Joseph started calling crews for the CNR when he was fifteen years old, before the arrival of the telephones. He started his career with the running trades in 1944 and retired in 1982. Joe, as he was called by most, Joe was born in the old family home on Harvard Ave. in Transcona on October 18, 1927. It was while growing up in Transcona that he met and later married Margaret, his childhood Sweetheart. They were married on June 25, 1949. They had 59 wonderful, happy years together. They lived and raised their own family there, until the time of his passing. Joe loved nothing more than going to the cabin at Grand Beach that he inherited from his Father. He spent many happy summers there, with family and friends. He also enjoyed Golfing a great deal, and especially enjoyed the yearly Stewart Family Golf Tournaments for many years. He was very proud of the hole-in-one that he had made at the Transcona Golf Club. He was the greatest Husband, Father and Grandfather, and never failed to tell the people that he cared about that he loved them everyday. He was a very kind, gentle and loving man. After his Retirement, Joe and Margaret traveled a great deal to many interesting places, including Spain, Portugal, Africa, Scotland and Hawaii. Celebration of Joe's life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West at 1:00 p.m. The family would like to thank all the Home Care Workers for their care and help at home, as well as all the Doctors and Nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit, for all their Care and Compassion, during this difficult time. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation to Cancer Care Manitoba, or a charity of your choice, in Joe's memory, would be very much appreciated.
